The Sacred Assembly
This Thangka depicts the "Long Life Trinity" and the Masters of the Lineage. It is a complete circle of protection.
Central Figure: White Tara
She sits in the center, glowing with white light. She has seven eyes—on her face, palms, and soles. She sees suffering everywhere.
Gesture: Her hand grants wishes (Varada Mudra).
Symbol: She holds a blue Utpala flower.
Energy: She offers maternal love and heals physical illness.
The Upper Realm (The Lineage)
Three enlightened beings float in the sky. They represent the transmission of wisdom.
Top Left (Chenrezig): The Lord of Compassion. He represents the love that motivates Tara.
Top Center (Amitabha Buddha): The Red Buddha of Infinite Light. He is the spiritual father of the Lotus family.
Top Right (Guru Rinpoche): Padmasambhava, the Lotus-Born Master. He protects the Dharma practice.
The Lower Realm (Protectors of Life)
Two deities sit at the base. Together with Tara, they form the Three Deities of Long Life.
Bottom Left (Amitayus): The Buddha of Boundless Life. He is red and holds the vase of immortal nectar.
Bottom Right (Ushnishavijaya): The Victorious Goddess. She has three faces and eight arms. She protects against untimely death.
The Karma Gadri Background
This style is distinct from the Menri style.
The Void: The background is mostly empty space. This represents Sunyata (Emptiness).
The Palette: The artist uses very faint washes of green and blue. The landscape is barely there.
The Focus: Because the background is simple, the deities seem to float. They pop out with incredible clarity.
Artisan Mastery
Painting in the Karma Gadri style is difficult. You cannot hide mistakes with heavy clouds or trees.
Precision: The lines must be perfect.
Gold Work: The 24K gold ornaments shine brilliantly against the pale background.
Scale: This large vertical format (100cm) allows for a majestic composition.
Spiritual Application
This is a functional spiritual tool.
Mantra: OM TARE TUTTARE TURE MAMA AYUR PUNYE JNANA PUSHTIM KURU SOHA.
Meditation: The open space in the painting helps open your mind during meditation.
Blessing: It is consecrated to radiate health, long life, and mental clarity.
